Destin is a city in northwest Florida, in the area known as the Panhandle. It's known for its Gulf of Mexico beaches and many golf courses, as well as the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. Nature trails pass through the dunes of Henderson Beach State Park in the south, where the coastline is dotted with pine and oak trees sheltering wildlife. To the west are the tall slides, waterfalls and pools of Big Kahuna’s water park.
The Track is a family-friendly amusement park franchise with six locations in the southeast United States, including one in Destin, Florida. It’s an indoor-outdoor facility; most rides are outside, but the original Fat Daddy Arcade is inside. The Track is free to enter and you buy points for the rides, games, and activities you want to enjoy.
Set along US Highway 98, a short drive from the Destin Harbor Boardwalk, Big Kahuna’s Water & Adventure Park is an outdoor attraction featuring miniature golf, a Skycoaster, and more than 40 water play areas. Kiddie rides and thrill rides make it a family-friendly park for all ages. It’s open seasonally from late spring through early autumn.
Destin Harbor Boardwalk is the main hub of activity in Destin. Although Destin has long been a destination for its beaches and fishing, the Destin Harbor Boardwalk is a newer project, completed in 2012. It’s just under a quarter-mile (402-meter) long, stretching from HarborWalk Village to the Crab Island Information Center. Shops, restaurants, and fishing charters fill this busy boardwalk adjacent to the Destin Bridge.
HarborWalk Village is the central area of Destin as far as tourism is concerned. It is located on Harbor Boulevard, aka Highway 98, the main throughway through Destin. A waterfront shopping, dining, and entertainment complex adjacent to the Destin Harbor Boardwalk, HarborWalk Village is a popular place for sunset viewing, casual strolling, weekly fireworks displays, and countless family-friendly live events throughout the year.
Destin Commons is an outdoor shopping center with more than 85 shops and restaurants, including Destin’s first food hall, City Food Hall. The complex also has entertainment, such as the AMC Movie Theater, a play area, a mural art walk, seasonal events, and an underwater-themed bowling alley. It’s located east of downtown, just across the Mid-Bay Toll Bridge.
Henderson Beach State Park became a public park in 1991 and added amenities like campsites, a playground, beach boardwalks, and a bathhouse soon after. It has some of the Panhandle’s last remaining coastal scrub communities, which are visible along the trails. Today, many people visit the beach throughout the year for camping, swimming, and wildlife viewing.
